Philie Hollinghurst

Philie is a post-doctoral scientist in the Flavivirus Transmission and Pathogenesis Group. As part of the Maringer lab aims to dissect the molecular determinants of species tropism, they are investigating the antiviral properties of mosquito immune pathways in cell culture with a range of transmitted viruses of the Flaviviridae, Alphaviridae and Bunyavirales clades at Containment Levels 2 and 3.

Philie previously studied for their PhD as a collaborative project between The Pirbright Institute and the University of Surrey, focusing on understanding the impact of genome variability among Rift Valley Fever Virus (RVFV) isolates. They have a keen in interest in molecular virology and its application for understanding and mitigating the burden viral disease.
