The Brooksby Building will be a high containment facility for large animal (HCLAF) experimental work.
Research in the building will focus on high consequence pathogens such as foot-and-mouth disease virus (FMDV).
The building will have have engineering features of high-containment built to the highest international standards, ensuring the safety of staff and environmental protection.
This new building will provide a standalone SAPO4 and ACDP3 facility with flexibility to house small animals (mice, guinea pigs, rabbits) for in vivo experiments.
The Brooksby Building is named in honour of John Brooksby CBE, former Director of the Institute and a pioneer in foot-and-mouth disease research, who made significant contributions in developing vaccines and investigating disease outbreaks.
The facility is crucial in the overall development of the Pirbright site and will be a key component that allows sustained success in livestock and zoonotic pathogens research.
