Dr Anna Ludi

Head of Serology Section, Vesicular Disease Reference Laboratory

Dr Anna Ludi is a member of the Vesicular Disease Reference Laboratories Group, which encompasses the FAO World Reference Laboratory for foot-and mouth disease (WRLFMD) and the European Reference Laboratory for FMD. Her team carries out serological work on foot-and-mouth disease virus (FMDV), swine-vesicular disease virus (SVDV)and vesicular stomatitis virus (VSD). The serological tests are used for the importation and exportation of livestock, to assist with post-vaccination monitoring and vaccine selection. The group also carries out an annual proficiency testing schemes on FMDV and SVDV.

Dr Ludi has a bachelor degree in biotechnology from the Rochester Institute of Technology, USA, a veterinary degree from the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University, USA and a PhD from the University of Cambridge, UK. Her interests are in the antigenic variability of FMDV including vaccine matching, validation of serological assays and post-vaccination monitoring.
