Samuel Richardson
Samuel obtained his MSc in Microbiology and Infection from the University of Birmingham in 2017 and went on to join Public Health England's biosafety group, where he was involved in research for the European Space Agency. He went on to work in NIBSC's Emerging Viruses group for a period that spanned the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic and contributed to the establishment of the first WHO International Standard for antibodies to SARS-CoV-2.
In 2021 Samuel joined The Pirbright Institute, where he studies respiratory zoonotic viruses. He was involved in the institute's response to the 2022 Monkeypox outbreak and is currently investigating the propensity for H5Nx avian influenza to infect the human airway. He serves as deputy manager of a high containment avian suite.
