Zoe Langlands
Zoë completed her BSc (Hons) in Entomology at the University of Pretoria in South Africa working on honey bees, Apis mellifera. Her MSc explored the development of hypopharyngeal glands in honey bees and the feeding behaviour of small hive beetles, Aethina tumida in honey bee hives in South Africa.
Zoë joined The Pirbright Institute in 2018 as a research technician in the Entomology group and trained in Culicoides taxonomy to identify biting midges found across the United Kingdom. She is now undertaking her PhD at Pirbright investigating the flight dynamics of Culicoides midges and the interactions between arboviruses and their vectors to understand whether arboviruses can manipulate their insect vectors to enhance onwards transmission to vertebrates.
