Jiayun Yang is a Postdoctoral Scientist who has dedicated the past ten years in the pathogenesis, innate immunity, and control of influenza virus.

Jiayun finished his PhD at The University of Nottingham in 2021. He then joined The Pirbright Institute in 2022 and is currently a post-doctoral scientist in the Avian Influenza and Newcastle Disease group under the leadership of Professor Munir Iqbal.

Jiayun is a member of BBSRC funded projects: FLU-MAP and FLU-TRAILMAP, as well as MRC funded project FLU-TRAILMAP-One Health consortia focusing on risk assessment of the H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza virus clade 2.3.4.4b to the health of animals and humans. His focus lies in understanding the molecular determinants that influenza virus host-range, exploring factors that impact receptor binding, antigenicity, and stability for infection in both birds and humans.
