Dr Emmanuel Obishakin
Senior Laboratory Analyst
Emmanuel obtained a DVM (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine) degree from Ahmadu Bello University, Nigeria. He started his career at the National Veterinary Research Institute, Nigeria as a Veterinary researcher before moving to Katholieke University, Leuven, Belgium to complete his MSc in Molecular Biology with distinction. Following this, Emmanuel completed his PhD in Bioengineering at Vrije University in Brussels, Belgium.
On completion of his PhD, Emmanuel undertook two years at the University of Ghent Global Campus, South Korea as a teaching assistant and postdoctoral researcher. He then moved to the National Veterinary Research Institute, Nigeria to fill the position of Assistant Director and Head of Biotechnology Division, overseeing the diagnosis and immunology of infectious animal and zoonotic diseases.
Emmanuel joined The Pirbright Institute in 2023 as Senior Laboratory Analyst. In his current role he develops, improves and tests new assays and technologies for the diagnosis of livestock viral diseases to ISO/IEC17025 standards. He is also responsible for identifying and maintaining sample panels and reference material for assay evaluation, delivering customer research objectives and the subsequent preparation of technical reports and presentations.
