Dr Altaf Hussain

Dr Altaf Hussain is a scientist at the Centre for Veterinary Vaccine Innovation and Manufacturing (CVIM) at The Pirbright Institute, working on Foot and Mouth Disease Virus (FMDV) virus like particle (VLP) vaccine development in SAPO4 containment facilities. His research focuses on animal virology, vaccinology, molecular biology, and emerging infectious diseases affecting poultry and livestock.

Altaf obtained his BSc in Poultry Science from University of Agriculture Faisalabad, his MSc in Animal Nutrition and Feed Science from Zhejiang University, and his PhD in Preventive Veterinary Science from Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences. His doctoral research focused on the molecular epidemiology of infectious bursal disease virus (IBDV) in Pakistan.

Before joining CVIM, Altaf worked as a Postdoctoral Research Scientist in the Avian Influenza Virus group at The Pirbright Institute, contributing to multivalent poultry vaccine development and research on avian influenza viruses. He has experience working in high containment laboratories and has contributed to several international collaborative research projects across the UK, China, and Pakistan.

His research interests include molecular virology, vaccine development, viral epidemiology, and diagnostic technologies for transboundary animal diseases.
