As part of our 2014 Centenary celebrations, on 19 July 2014 The Pirbright Institute will be opening its doors to the public, providing you with a unique opportunity to tour our brand new high containment laboratory facilities and discover 100 years of scientific research into livestock diseases.
From the initial establishment of a cattle testing station for tuberculosis in 1914, to the more recent redevelopment programme to put the Institute at the forefront of virus research, the Institute’s achievements over the past 100 years have been many. Pirbright has played a vital role in controlling and preventing some of the world’s most devastating livestock diseases through fundamental and applied research and the development of new and improved diagnostics and vaccines.
Our Centenary Open Day promises to be a day filled with entertainment and discovery. In addition to tours of our new laboratory complex, you will have the opportunity to talk to our scientists and have a go at hands on science exhibits. There will also be a range of fun activities for children including games, competitions and a treasure hunt.
The Centenary Open Day will take place on Saturday 19 July from 2pm-5pm. Entry to this event is free, but you must register to receive a ticket. You will need a ticket and be asked to provide photo ID to be allowed entry on to the site. You can receive your free ticket by visiting the registration site, please do a separate registration for each member of your family.
