Ben Sutherland, an apprentice at The Pirbright Institute, has won the Guildford College Group Apprentice of the Year Award in recognition of his exceptional achievement in his Business Intermediate Level Apprenticeship and work ethic. Ben attended an evening awards ceremony at G Live in Guildford in November where he was presented with his award and a cheque for £100.
Ben was thrilled to receive the award, “It was a complete surprise as I did not know I had been put forward for it. My experience of working at The Pirbright Institute has been really positive. Everyone has been so friendly and supportive and it is a great working environment. The course was excellent and relevant to my work, and the fact I was getting paid to train and gain qualifications and get work experience was brilliant. It was a win-win situation for me!”
Ben who has been working as an Apprentice at the Pirbright Institute for 18 months completed his apprenticeship in the Security & HR department in the summer, receiving top marks in all his assessments. Ben’s manager, Head of Security Lee Caines was so impressed with his performance that suggested he apply for a permanent role at The Institute working in the Security department, which he later secured: “Ben has been a real success story and The Institute has since taken on more apprentices and has plan to recruit more. Ben has shown us the value of the scheme and his mature outlook and desire to succeed has really paid off. He is a great advocate for both the apprenticeship scheme and The Institute.”
